Many Unitarian Universalist congregations offer ceremonies of dedication and welcome for infants and children. Depending on the congregation, these can be custom-made for individual children or conducted for groups of children.

At UUFRC, we dedicate our children during a full worship service, learning the child’s name and her/his special qualities, then pledging support for them and their parents throughout their time in the congregation, and, finally, finally connecting all to the Circle of Life with prayer.

Child dedication ceremonies are usually crafted by the parents, our minister, and our religious educator working closely together. Many will include the following elements:

  • A blessing for the new life of the child;
  • An expression of parental hopes for the child;
  • A promise by the congregation to support and nurture the child.

Please contact our Minister or the Director of Religious Education if you would like to have them officiate a Child Dedication.
