Share the Plate with Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley Sunday, November 20

UUFRC has had a long standing relationship with Second Harvest, and it is eminently worthy of our financial support, along with our volunteer efforts. Founded in 1974, it is one of the largest food banks in the country and has consistently received a 4/4 star rating from Charity Navigator. The organization distributes nutritious groceries through a network of more than 300 partners at drive-through and walk-up centers across Santa Clara and San Mateo. Our own Chris Stovall and John Anning commandeer a seamless monthly operation at Nesbit School in Belmont. There we serve 8 tons of food to between 125 and 155 grateful families. Prior to distribution day, other UUFRC volunteers work at the warehouse, sorting food into boxes. On the Second Harvest website, one finds this moving statement: “We offer more than just nourishment, we are helping people in our community feel a little more secure and find joy in the pleasure of cooking and sharing a meal with loved ones.”

Anna Dyer, UUFRC member, is Director of Programs and will make a short presentation at the November 20th service.

Donations can be made from the Friday before the service to the Tuesday following the service using PayPal link https://www.UUFRC.org/community/giving/ and writing “Share the Plate” in the memo line. On the Sunday of the collection, all donations, unless otherwise specified, go to Share the Plate.
