Non-attachment: Buddhism’s Challenge to Unitarian Universalism

00:00 REFLECTION: Liz Davis
03:19 SERMON: “Non-attachment: Buddhism’s Challenge to Unitarian Universalism” – Rev. Brian Ferguson

Order of Service

Buddhism is increasingly popular in the United States and influential to many Unitarian Universalists. Central to Buddhism is the idea that suffering is caused by attachment to people, places and things therefore the path to the cessation of suffering is detachment or non-attachment from such areas. In Christian spirituality, detachment from worldly possessions and concerns is encouraged. Unitarian Universalism values and encourages our connection to people, values, and ideas. This worship service will explore both the challenges and blessings Buddhist thinking on non-attachment provides Unitarian Universalism. Worship Associate: Liz Davis.
