Many religions emphasize the perfection of God. Our Unitarian Universalist religion takes this even further with one of our most influential thinkers, William Ellery Channing, stating “To seek the very spirit of God, which proposes as its great end the perfection of the human soul.” Given the all-to-human lives we lead, is this ideal of perfection helpful or is it as some suggest, a major cause of the epidemic of shame and feelings of inadequacy in our society? This worship service will explore the ideal of perfection in our culture and its possible link to shame that many of us experience in various ways. Worship Associate: Tracey Fecher.
