Finding Your Spiritual Voice (Voices of UUFRC)

Six Saturdays in 2019: March 2nd, April 6th, May 4th, June 8st, August 3rd, 10am-12:30pm; September 21st, 12:30 – 3pm.

“Finding Your Spiritual Voice” was first developed and taught to members of the Live Oak UU Fellowship in Alameda (an entirely lay-led congregation) 4 years ago.

Members of the Live Oak’s worship team wanted to deepen their ability to create meaningful worship, and discovered the wonderful textbook by UU minister Erika Hewitt entitled The Shared Pulpit on which the course is based. The class was composed of the lay worship team as well as other members of the Live Oak congregation who wanted to explore their own spirituality in a workshop setting, and everyone who took the course when it was first offered found it to be so profoundly moving, that when it was offered again two years later, more than half of the original class took it again.

There are writing assignments between sessions, and lots of practical advice and technical tips, as well as many moments of levity and personal discovery. Kate Hand has been both a student and a teacher of this course, and recommends it to anyone who wishes to deepen their spiritual journey, and especially to those who may wish to share that journey from the pulpit of UUFRC. The class is limited to 8 students.
