One of the fundamental principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association is the use of the democratic process. As an expression of our faith, many Unitarian Universalist congregations engage in voter registration and protecting voting rights, not for partisan reasons, but to empower all eligible people to contribute their voices to the democratic process.

Voting Rights

Defending the freedom to vote has been central to the work of the UUA and at the core of Unitarian Universalism for decades—from expanding enfranchisement for women and African Americans to advocating for a path to citizenship for immigrants; from our proud history of civil rights engagement to taking on the New Jim Crow today. As a faith community UUs are vocal and active about voting rights and have made real change happen throughout history.

The Social Action Committee also supports work by ACLU People Power and other nonpartisan efforts to register voters, doing outreach and voter education in the local community including the high schools.

At UUFRC, members support the effort to redraw all districts in a fair, equal, non-partisan way that allows democracy to function the way it is intended.

We further believe it is a right of all citizens to have access to a secure and non-fraudulent system of voting.

Safety for All Neighborhoods and Towns

Members of UUFRC support sensible gun legislation and other government measures to provide a safer environment for children and adults, in all neighborhoods of all socio-economic backgrounds.
