1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
All UUFRC members and friends are invited to attend this workshop sponsored by Fools Mission and led by Jiwon Chung, who teaches Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) at Starr King School for the Ministry. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably for movement. You will engage in exercises designed to promote group cohesiveness, improvisation skills, embodied intelligence, and spontaneity in action. Donations are voluntary, and child care will be provided. The workshop will provide prompt translation into Spanish for Spanish speakers.
Theater of the Oppressed is a collection of games, techniques, and exercises for using theater as a vehicle for personal and social change. It is an artistic exploration into the fullest expression of our human dignity, potential, and creativity. Based on the pioneering work of Augusto Boal and Paulo Freire, TO uses the dynamized human body and the charged theatrical space as laboratories for exploring power, transforming oppression, and finding new paths to community-oriented justice.
