All UUFRC members and friends are invited to attend this workshop sponsored by Fools Mission and led by Jiwon Chung, who teaches Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) at Starr King School for the Ministry. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably for movement. You will engage in exercises designed to promote group cohesiveness, improvisation skills, embodied intelligence, and spontaneity in action. Donations are voluntary, and child care will be provided. The workshop will provide prompt translation into Spanish for Spanish speakers.
This four-hour session will apply Theatre of the Oppressed to building a new movement of rapid response networks whose aim is to protect immigrant families from being torn apart by cruel and unjust deportations. With the help of those who have lived the immigrant experience first hand, citizen allies learn how to respond in real time to the presence of immigration officers in our neighborhoods, record and document their operations, and follow up with legal support and accompaniment.
