The Congregational Church of San Mateo (CCSM) and the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo (UUSM) have each been hosting a woman in sanctuary for over one year now. Both Estefany Hernandez and Natalia Medina are members of the trans-caravan from Central America and both are in the asylum process. “The members of the caravan are fleeing discrimination, abuse, torture, and other forms of violence because of their gender identity or sexual orientation,” explains Flor Bermudez, legal director at Transgender Law Center. CCSM and UUSM have joined together in supporting two of these women.
Today we have the opportunity to meet Natalia in person when we share the plate with CCSM and UUSM. Come learn first-hand about the asylum process and what life is like for one very recent immigrant to our country.
You may make a check out to UUFRC or to Congregational Church of San Mateo and put “Sanctuary Fund” in the memo line.
