Carpool from UUFRC
Mount Umunhum is one of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz mountain range at 3,486 feet. From its summit, you can see 360-degree views from the Pacific to the Sierra Nevada. Let’s check it out on Saturday, February 1.
We will hike 3.85 miles up to the summit from the Bald Mountain trailhead and then return down the same trail for a total mileage of 7.7 miles. According to my research, this 1,200-foot climb is moderate and well-shaded.
At the top, there are several sights to see besides the amazing view: a shelter with interpretive panels, a ceremonial space honoring the mountain’s Native American history, and a radar tower.
Meet at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Redwood City (2124 Brewster Ave. and Lowell) a little bit before 9am to form carpools. If you want to meet us at the Bald Mountain trailhead, we should arrive there about 10am.
If you and your family would like to visit the summit of Mount Umunhum but would prefer not to hike up the trail, consider joining us for lunch and exploration on the summit between 12 noon and 1pm.
Bring lunch and water.
Hope to see you on the trail,
