Sunday Morning Ministry Teams

Worship Committee

Description: Assist in preparing and delivering the Sunday services.

Chalice Lighters Team

Description: We need volunteers to light the chalice at the beginning of each Sunday service. It is an honor to participate in this way.

Sunday Greeters Team

Description: Each Sunday we have two Greeters to welcome people, hand out the Orders of Service and collect the Sunday offering. This is a great way to begin to meet people and put names and faces together.

Audio-Visual Team

Contact: Josh Moore
Description: Prepare and run the slides shown during service. Record the sermons and put them on the website. Assist with other AV projects as needed.

Center of Interest Team

Description: Display of visual art in the Sanctuary created on a monthly basis by volunteers from the congregation.

Music Committee

Meetings: Third Thursday of the month, 6:30 pm, as needed. Please check with Dawn to find out when the next meeting is scheduled.
Description: Help Music Director to plan and carry out musical offerings at services and plan special concerts.

Ministry of Culinary Arts (MOCA)

Description: Organizes and prepares refreshments for our Social Hour following each Sunday service.


Connections & Caring

Connections Committee

Description: Encourages the participation and integration of newcomers, members, friends, and youth in the life of  UUFRC. Involvement opportunities include Sunday morning greeting, welcoming newcomers, supporting classes for newcomers and new members, and planning activities such as potlucks and celebrations to facilitate connections.

Caring Committee

DescriptionThis committee helps us care for each other in tangible ways, such as delivering meals to new parents or those who are sick, offering rides to church, sending cards to those in need of support or cheer, and any other emotional or physical assistance for members in need. Please contact us if you are able to help with something.


Faith Exploration & Development

Youth and Family (YAF) Committee

Chair: Jessica Roybal

Description: Aid the spiritual development of our children through exploration of our UU values and heritage, as well as those of other faith traditions. Guide our children’s Religious Education program and coordinate family events, among other things.

The Learning Journey /Adult Faith Development Committee

Chair: Tanya Webster

Description: Plans and offers classes, workshops, and forums on topics that support adult faith exploration & development. See the Learning Journey page. Also see the Adult Classes page for a list of current and upcoming offerings.

Justice & Community Outreach

Social Action Committee

Description: On behalf of the congregation, we identify efforts that we believe will promote social justice or protect the environment.  We take action on those efforts, and encourage members and friends to take action as well. See also Social Action Committee page. Sanctuary Congregation Team

Description: Assist our UUFRC team in matters related to being a Sanctuary Congregation and providing other immigrant assistance with legal and ICE matters. See Sanctuary Congregation page.

Roosevelt Tutoring Program

Description: We’ve been involved in assisting Roosevelt Elementary School students improve their reading and comprehension skills since 2007.  Volunteering for one or two hours per week is extremely rewarding.

Green Sanctuary/ Eco Justice

DescriptionUUFRC received Green Sanctuary certification in 2011, and continues to work towards more green action inhouse, and more environmental justice everywhere. See Green Sanctuary page. See Environmental Justice page.

Welcoming Congregation/ LGBTQIA Justice

Description: Works to welcome and support members of the LGBTQIA community. The purpose is to be supportive, hopeful, and celebrate the vibrancy of the LGBTQIA community, to seek opportunities to educate the wider community, and to promote connections and healing. See Welcoming Congregation page.


Interfaith Partnerships

Interfaith Committee

Description: Our committee fosters UUFRC’s engagement with congregations of other faiths primarily through our membership in the Peninsula Multifaith Coalition and participation in its activities, and we explore other faith traditions through sponsoring interfaith services and forums. See also Interfaith Partnerships Page. 

Yaseen Foundation Food Sort Project

DescriptionUUFRC participates in a monthly food sort for Second Harvest with members of the Yaseen Foundation. It is a great way to volunteer in our community and support our partners.

Small Group Ministry

Covenant Groups (C Groups)

Coordinators: Elizabeth Chitouras and Bill Welch
Description“C” stands for community, connection, and covenant. Groups of 7-10 people who meet twice a month (generally) for six months to explore meaningful topics and deepen relationships with each other. Contact the coordinators if you would like to volunteer in this area, or to join a C Group. See the Covenant Groups page.


Fellowship Events

Ice Cream Social

Contact: Carol Cross
Description: A fun social after service where you get your ice cream, then mingle with different groups to get different toppings. A fun and delicious way to meet people and find out what’s going on.  Help setup and cleanup. Usually held in late September 

Silent Auction Committee

Chairs: Jessica Roybal and Jen Bahr-Davidson
Description: Come help us plan the biggest FUNdraiser at UUFRC. This key event is critical for the yearly budget, and also a lot of fun! Join us with planning, special parts like decorating, or food and drinks, and helping take a short shift the day of the event. A fantastic way to enjoy UUFRC fellowship. 

Annual Fall Retreat

Chairs: Debbie Mytels and Marina Rose 
Description: Join us in the redwoods near Santa Cruz for a relaxing Fall weekend of good fellowship, fun, food, activities, workshops, and worship. There are many ways to help out. Usually held in early November. 

Come for one day or the entire weekend.

Annual Craft Fair

Description: Held mid-Dec. Help organize it.

Christmas Lights Walk

Contact: Sharon Gee
Description: Gather for hot chocolate and treats, then stroll together to view the Christmas lights. A wonderful multi-generational event.  Contact Sharon if you are interested in helping out. Held in December.

New Year’s Eve Party

Contact: Allen Perry or Sarah Skovland
Description: Help organize this fun event. The evening starts out with a potluck, and continues on with music, singing, poetry, dance and entertainment. The New Year is celebrated each hour from 9 pm on!

Spaghetti Dinner

(Organized by the YAF Committee)
: Derby Davidson
Description: Each year, the youth put on a fun, multi-generational spaghetti dinner to raise money to support  youth education. Usually held in February.

The Flaming Chalice Lounge

Description: Help organize a wonderful night of music in the sanctuary from our talented pool of musicians. Think cafe music meets talent show meets amazingly great music.

Earth Day Festival

Contact: Jorie Shultz
Description: Earth Day holds special significance to Unitarian Universalists, symbolic of our Seventh principle dedicated to the interconnected web of life. Help organize this fun festival open to the neighborhood.

Annual Rummage Sale

Contact: Sara Morgan and Kaye Bonney
Description: Held mid-May. Help organize it.

Year-End Potluck

Contact: Lori Longo
Description: In early June, UUFRC walks over to nearby Stafford Park after service to enjoy a potluck and conversation with each other.



Building/Maintenance Committee

: Ensure all physical aspects of our facility are well maintained.


Chair: Jonelle Preisser
Description: Care for our gardens and landscape areas. Do you enjoy gardening? Come help us care for our new drought tolerant plantings and grass. We weed, trim, mow and sweep to keep our grounds looking lovely.

Twice Yearly Workdays (Spring and Fall)

Contact: George Goslee
Description: A great way to meet others as we scrub, dust, paint, weed, polish and tend to our Fellowship building.  We break bread together at noon and chocolate chip cookies are traditional for dessert!  Many hands make light work, and there is plenty of laughter all around.

Aesthetics Committee

Description: Handle interior decorations, furnishings and any other architectural or stylistic aspects of the building.



Social Media Team

Lead: Marina Rose
Meetings: Ad Hoc. Third Monday of the month, 7pm. Please check calendar to confirm, as exceptions occur.
Description: Provides outreach and community information through online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Volunteers work to provide timely communications in a unified and coherent manner, and ensure a look and feel consistent with the mission, values and goals of the Fellowship. View Social Media page.

Description: The website team assists the webmaster with updating content, publishing events, gathering photos and otherwise maintaining the website.


Editor: OPEN
Description: Edits and publishes the monthly newsletter.



Finance Committee

Chair: Jennifer Bahr-Davidson

Description: Provides recommendations on decisions with financial implications, manages the budget and monitors our expenditures. Appointed by the Board of Trustees.

Pledge Drive Committee

Description: Help organize and communicate about the spring Pledge Drive. The Pledge Drive is what makes everything happen
