April  2018 Social Action Committee Update

  • We are changing our April meeting to April 8th instead of April 1st, so it does not conflict with Easter.
  • We signed a letter to the US House of Representatives opposing funding for a border wall, and reducing funding for immigration enforcement and detention.   We signed a petition to Redwood City City Council in support of a 90 day stay for eviction of Docktown and conversion of 22 empty homes into low income housing.   We joined TEAMC, a Transit Justice Coalition in San Mateo County.
  • Last month’s events:
  • March 7 –  San Mateo County Immigrant Rights Coalition retreat.
  • March 18 –  Fossil Fuel Divestment forum.
  • March 25 – Rapid Response training by Faith in Action.
  • March 28 we are sponsoring Fossil-Free MidPeninsula, with a goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045.

  • Events coming up:
  • April 7 – Clean Money Act workshop.
  • June 3 – “Uprooting Racism” (Showing Up for Racial Justice, SURJ)

Please come to our Social Action Committee meetings the first Sunday at noon in the Back Lounge.  The next meeting is April 8.  All are welcome!  —Nancy Goodban and Carolyn Chaney, co-chairs
