Volunteering

UUFRC depends on volunteers to keep our congregation running and to offer the services and activities that make this such a rich and engaging community.  Volunteering is also an excellent way to get to know others and develop stronger bonds with your fellow members.  With so many different ways to help out, we hope everyone will find a way to contribute that fits his or her interests and skills:

One-time Opportunities

If you’re not interested or able to sign-up for an extended commitment, try something out one time and see what you think.  Many volunteer activities only require one-time commitments.  For example, there are many activities related to the Sunday services that require assistance: Greeters, set-up, chalice lighters, coffee and snacks, childcare.  Other activities include helping out with clean-up days, ad-hoc maintenance projects or special events. 

Offsite Opportunities

Some people prefer to do volunteer work at home or need the flexibility of doing things on their own schedule.  We have both one-time opportunities (e.g., help out with collecting information for a project or providing assistance to members in need) and on-going opportunities (e.g.,maintain the website or writing for the newsletter).

On-going Opportunities

Find an area you care about and get involved with others who share your interest.  Join a group or committee for a more rewarding experience.  We are a democracy and this is your opportunity to shape decisions that affect issues you care about.

Hot to Get Started

Sometime the hardest part is finding out about these activities or knowing who to contact.  A good place to start is to check the list of committees for activities that interest you and to contact the chairperson listed.  The newsletters, Sunday orders of service and pulpit announcements during the service are other good sources of opportunities.
